Guitar Found

Well, what do you know? Someone hunted down the guitar I just posted about...probably not through any efforts of mine but more likely because of Global TV's extensive coverage. This guitar has been through a lot since Brian "Too Loud" passed away years ago...it's been to Vancouver Island, Kelowna, and has been tracked to it's current owner in Calgary.

He turns out to be a guitar player himself and a great guy. I'll add his name when I find out so you can see him for yourself. He was apparently excited to hear that Brian's guitar will have a special place in the concert this weekend. He's kindly sending it out West where it will be appreciated and remembered along with Too Loud's great chops....

I’m helping my Dad look for Brian "Too Loud" MacLeod's signature guitar....Bill Henderson and Chilliwack are celebrating 40 years of music at the River Rock Show Theatre Friday May 21st and Saturday May 22nd and Bill would like to have the guitar onstage as a tribute to Brian, who was such an important part of the Chilliwack sound, songs and spirit during some of their most exciting years. Blast From the (Way) Past!

OMG! 20 years later, a Friday the 13th fan named Kurt...hi, Kurt!....has sent me a picture that I had to smile at. And share with you. It brings back memories of playing JJ the rocker, 2nd body of the film (whose title I shall not impart....if you're that much of a horror fan you probably already know), which we shot in Brittania Beach and Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver.

The picture is sweet because it's pre guitar-in-the-head wound. Yes, she dies when Jason whacks her in the head with a (pink!) Flying V. The death wasn't so quick in real life 'cause it took a few days to shoot. I remember Dad patiently trying to teach me how to play air guitar to the piece they used in the film (no, I am not actually a playah, I can't even keep it in tune!), sitting in the trailer for HOURS getting my hair crimped, LMAO with Martin Cummins, and laying on the bottom of that cold, wet, gritty barge playing dead from my little wax head wound, and dreaming of a warm bath. Sigh....it's good to be alive. Thanks for the memories, Kurt and all of you who write about the Very Important Part I played!

Bad Diabetic!

Ugh. I don't even want to post about this. Because I'm that bad. But maybe someone out there will understand and have some magic healing wisdom type thing to leave as a comment? Talking about one's diabetes is worse than talking about one's dental work, I swear. Mind you, if you've been all but ignoring your Type 1 Juvenile Onset Diabetes for the last couple of years.....it just can't be a comfortable topic.

Diabetes (Type 1, 2,whatever you have) is all about management. It's also about compliance. In order to run a healthy diabetic body, one needs to test blood sugar 4-8 times per day, either count carbohydrates or portions, and REMEMBER (good lawd) to take insulin or medications in a timely manner, and for many of us, moment to moment, hour to hour, throughout the day. And exercise regularly. And examine one's feet daily like a grooming monkey. And blah blah blah blah.

A healthy diabetic is a REALLY healthy person. It's like having a full time job. Luckily, I work freelance and it's rare that I'm full on full time with my 'real' job. It's just a hell of a lot of work and their truly is no 'vacation' from it, not one that any of us could afford. I've managed to balance all of this before during my 34 yrs of insulin. So where did I go wrong?

Well, it was after the second baby.....so tired, so busy, Daddy went on the road, 8 weeks of root canal appointments, a few family tragedies....and I just could not get interested in my blood sugar. I just wanted to sleep. Three years later I test begrudgingly, and not often enough. I eat because I am hungry and often can't remember exactly how much I ate as I belatedly estimate the carbs. I don't exercise nearly enough. Sigh. I want to be a good diabetic, I really do. I'm just a little Crusty! Thanks for lettting me vent... Anyone out there who wants to share...you've got the floor!

Diet Coke, I am your b*^ch

Is it so wrong? This love? I try to quit you. I try several times a year. And nothing at all comes even close to that happiness in a can. I know you could cause me all kinds of peril and still here I am, digging in my purse through the receipts and lip glosses and gums that have unwrapped themselves so I can have you. Finally, feeling the world come into focus and my worries take a back seat to that bubbly cola sensation that is sweet but has a punch and a spicy quality and...let's face it, you're one of my only pleasures. You'll never compare to my kids and my husband, of course, because you cannot love me back and hug me and rub my feet and you aren't quite a reason to live. There are so many reasons to leave you, aspartame and sodium something-I-can't-pronounce included. You literally leach the life from my bones. But coffee, green tea, iced tea, black tea, herbal tea and other bubbly drinks don't hold a candle. You call me from the shelves with your amazing case of 12 deal. You beckon from the cooler with your well-lit, dewy cold silky smooth exterior. You say jump, and I jump. You say push me higher, and I push you higher. One last time.

Welcome to Blogville, Blogland, in Deep Blogovia. It's rather quiet here. Is this why people blog? For the satisfaction of a long winded, one sided conversation? If you're wondering why I'm doing it: mom told me I should write more. Every therapist/magazine makes a case for Journaling as a way to come to terms with one's feelings (and perhaps, in retrospect, be humiliated by one's melodramatic tendencies?) and hopefully avoid falling face first on an open bag of Cheetos. One more reason -- I thought maybe it would connect me to other diabetic vegetarian singers. Kidding! If there are any of you, though, I'd appreciate knowing. Well, even if you're any one of the above. The real other reason is that a very psychic friend of mine said I needed to do some Literary work with my LAPTOP! Not exactly a novelist, but Giddyup.

So, let's make this symbiotic. Think of me as a full-service blog.
